A creamy, medium- to full-bodied red that expands nicely on the palate, leading with baked black cherry and date notes that transition to hints of ferrous mineral, cured tobacco and espresso crema. A tang of citrusy acidity keeps this fresh through to the chewy finish. Drink now through 2025. 5,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. — AN

The 2017 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso San Michele is a fruit-forward effort that shows medicinal cherry, plum sauce, cloves, gingery spices and brown sugar. It’s silky with a polished feel, swaying more toward the tart and savory spectrum on the palate with its display of balsamic-tinged wild berries and herbs. Long yet chewy, this tapers off with a distinct note of sour cherries in dark chocolate. -Eric Guido, Feb 2021
